CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. 1�- 72-3
A RESOLUTION TO BROWARD COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS CONCERNING THE PLIGHT OF EDUCATION
DUE TO THE PROLIFERATION OF DEVELOPMENT IN
BROWARD COUNTY
WHEPEAS, there is an acute shortage of classroom space
throughout Broward County and especially in western Broward County,
and
WHEREAS, it is not anticipated that there will be much
relief from this shortage in the foreseeable future, and
WHEREAS, the Broward County School Board has obtained
advanced funding for the next five (5) years from the State of
Florida for school construction, and
WHEREAS, it is not anticipated that even this advanced
funding will have a significant impact on the school problem within
Broward County, Florida,. and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac and most other jurisdiction!
within Broward County consistently receive letters from the County
School Board which state that classroom space for proposed plats
is inadequate, and
WHEREAS, the Broward County School Board is really unablf
at the present time, to intelligently estimate when, if ever, there
will be adequate classroom facilities, and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac is extremely interested in
seeing that there is adequate classroom space within the City and
throughout the County, and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac sees abolute futility in
acting unilaterally without any expectation of support from
neighboring municipalities in curbing growth because of the school
problems, and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac is requiring that notice
to prospective purchasers of the school situation be provided by
developers to prospective purchasers, and
WHEREAS, it would appear to be incumbent upon the Board

of County Commissioners to take a firm stand and to exercise leader-
ship and set an example in taking some positive actions, whatever
they may be, to see that class space does not become any more scarce
than it currently is.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the Board of County Commissioners
is requested to do more than merely acknowledge the fact that
there is a tremendous shortage of classroom space within Broward
County and that it provide leadership and set an example in taking
some positive actions, whatever they may be, to see that class space
does not become any more scarce than it currently is.
SECTION 2: That the Board of County Commissioners is
urged to hold workshop meetings with the School Board and with
representatives of the Cities of Western Broward County to endeavor
to better address the problem of inadequate class space and the
effect of development thereon.
SECTION 3: This Resolution shall be effective
immediately upon passage.
