4 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE
TO REDEFINE THE DEFINITION OF LUXURY APARTMENT
5 WITHIN SECTION 166.043 OF THE FLORIDA STATUTES
IN ORDER THAT MORE RENTAL UNITS MAY BE SUBJECT
b OF RENT'CONTROL REGULATIONS
7 WHEREAS, Section 166.043 of the Florida Statutes pro-
8 videt that luxury apartment buildings are those which on January 1,
9 1977, have an aggregate rent due on a monthly basis from all dwelling
10 units divided by the number of dwelling units in excess of $25O.00,and
11 WHEREAS, inflation has terribly depreciated the
12 buying power of a dollar, and
13 WHEREAS, there is a tremendous shortage of rental
14 units in Broward County, and
15 WHEREAS, this tremendous shortage creates a sellers
J6 market wherein rents are becoming astronomically high, and
17 WHEREAS, the State Legislature has recognized the
18 validity and occasional need for rent control regulations, and
19 WHEREAS, it is necessary for immediate action to be
20 taken to remedy this problem.
21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
22 THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
23 SECTION 1: That the State Legislature is hereby
24 requested to modify the definition of luxury apartment buildings
25 within the Florida Statutes so that more units within the State could
26 be subject to rent control provisions. This need and request are
27 made because of the inflation over the past few years and the
28 drastic shortage of rental units in.South Florida and probably
29 throughout the State which allows landlords to raise rents
30 exhorbitantly.
31 SECTION 2: A copy of this Resolution shall be
32 forwarded to all municipalities within Broward County and to all
33 members of the Broward County Legislative Delegation and to the
34 Broward County Commission.

SECTION 3: This Resolution shall become effective
immediately.
