R-2000- ©.)- A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA ACCEPTING THE GRANTAWARD FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE, UNDER THE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM IN THE AMOUNT OF $28,251; AUTHORIZING THE CITY CASH MATCH OF $3,138 TO BE ALLOCATED FROM THE GRANTS - MATCHING ACCOUNT FOR A TOTAL PROJECT COST OF $31,389; AMENDING THE GRANTS FUND BUDGET; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac desires to enhance the existing crime prevention and law enforcement programs; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, provides grants for projects that will reduce crimes and improve public safety; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac wishes to improve public safety and enhance its law enforcement programs and accepts Broward Sheriffs Office recommendations in their utilization of the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Funding; and WHEREAS, Resolution R-98-241 of the City Commission of the City of Tamarac authorized the appropriate City Officials to apply to the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, requesting grant funds in the amount of $28,251 with a City cash match of $3,138 from the grants matching account; and Temp. Reso.8885 January 10, 2000 Revision #1 Page 2 WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, has approved the City of Tamarac's application for funding under the Local Law Enforcement Block Grants Program in the amount of $28,251; and WHEREAS, funding from the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant is earmarked, hereto listed in Exhibit 1, to provide the City and District VI I with several computers, software, equipment, and other resources needed for information gathering and statistical data tracking utilized in law enforcement and community initiatives; and WHEREAS, any and all assets purchased through this program will be the property of the City of Tamarac, used by Broward Sheriff's Office District VI and maintained by Broward Sheriffs Office District VII; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and Tamarac BSO District VII Chief recommend acceptance of the grant award; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to accept the grant award from the Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, in the amount of $28,251, with a City cash match of $3,138, for a total project cost of $31,389, to enhance crime prevention and law enforcement programs. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: Section 1: The foregoing WHEREAS clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this I 1 Temp. Reso 8885 January 10, 2000 Revision #1 Page 3 resolution. Section 2: The City Commission hereby accepts grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, Local Law Enforcement Block Grant application award in the amount of $28,251 with a cash match of $3,138 for a total project cost $31,389 to enhance the City of Tamarac's crime prevention and law enforcement programs. Section 3: The City Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to accept the grant and its conditions, and fulfill all obligations including but not limited to the signing of applicable documents and the designation of a City Official to participate in the BSO Advisory Review Committee to review Law Enforcement Block Grant Programs. Section 4: The City Commission authorizes the appropriate City Officials to amend the Grants Fund budget in the amount of $28,251 and appropriate said funds including any and all subsequent budgetary transfers to be in accordance with proper accounting procedures. Section 5: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 6: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or in application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portion or applications of this Resolution.
