R-2000- v A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING A CONTRIBUTION TO THE BROWARD ADVISORS FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION (BRACE) SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR A SILVER OPPORTUNITY, TWO-YEAR SCHOLARSHIP IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,500; AUTHORIZING THE APPROPRIATE BUDGETARY TRANSFER OF FUNDS; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida supports the Broward Education Foundation's Broward Advisors for Continuing Education (BRACE) Scholarship Fund which offers college and vocational school scholarships to qualifying public school graduates in Broward County; and WHEREAS, since 1989, the BRACE Scholarship Fund has awarded 1,182 scholarships totaling $1,722,378; and WHEREAS, many qualifying public school graduates who have exhausted all avenues of financial aid still fall short of their monetary need in order to pursue postsecondary work; and WHEREAS, the BRACE Scholarship Fund allows the City of Tamarac the opportunity to financially assist a Tamarac resident public school graduate in pursuing a higher education at a postsecondary school through the United States; and WHEREAS, in 1999, the City sponsored a Silver Opportunity two year scholarship for a public school graduate through the BRACE Scholarship Fund; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida, deems it to be in the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to sponsor a Silver I'] Ll Temp. Reso # 8984 — April 12, 2000 Revision # 1 —April 17, 2000 Page 2 Opportunity, two year scholarship for a Tamarac resident public school graduate through the BRACE Scholarship Fund. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: Section 1: That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: That the appropriate City officials are authorized to make a contribution to the Broward Advisors for Continuing Education (BRACE) Scholarship Fund in the amount of $2,500 for a Silver Opportunity two year scholarship to benefit a Tamarac resident public school graduate. Section 3: That the appropriate budgetary transfer of funds is hereby approved. Section 4: That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 5: That if any clause, section, other part of application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or in application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portion or applications of this Resolution.
