R-2000 - IS c� A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, NAMING THE NEWLY CONSTRUCTED SENIOR & COMMUNITY CENTER PROJECT, LOCATED AT 8601 WEST COMMERCIAL BOULEVARD, TAMARAC, THE "TAMARAC COMMUNITY CENTER"; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY: AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, in April 1997 the City Commission identified the construction of a community center/senior center as a major goal; and WHEREAS, in November 1997 a needs assessment was conducted in which 92% of those surveyed said the new center should be for everyone; and WHEREAS, a referendum was placed on the ballot for September 1, 1998 for the construction of the senior & community center and issuance of bonds to finance the center; and WHEREAS, "The Friends of the Community Center", a group of Tamarac residents appointed by the City Commission to assist in a public information and education campaign, commenced activities on June 24, 1998; and WHEREAS, a public information campaign was conducted to inform voters of the programs and activities planned in the new center, with the tagline "A Center for All Ages"; and WHEREAS, on September 1, 1998, the voters in the City of Tamarac approved the referendum for the issuance of general obligation bonds to finance the building of a senior and community center and related costs; and Temp. Reso. #9053 - June 1, 2000 Page 2 WHEREAS, the concept behind the Community Center is that it will be a place where every resident of Tamarac can pursue lifelong fitness and health of body, mind and spirit; and WHEREAS, the majority of the "Friends of the Community Center", who have remained active informally since the passage of the referendum item, feel that the name "Tamarac Community Center" better reflects that the Center is for all Tamarac residents and will provide programs for people of all ages; and WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the Director of Parks and Recreation and the City Manager that the newly constructed building be named the "Tamarac Community Center"; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida, deems it to be in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to name the building the "Tamarac Community Center". NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: SECTION 1: That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. SECTION 2: That the newly constructed Senior & Community Center project, located at 8601 West Commercial Boulevard, Tamarac, is hereby named the "Tamarac Community Center." SECTION 3: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. 1 u 1 Temp. Reso. #9053 - June 1, 2000 Page 3 SECTION 4: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this Resolution.
