CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R2000- M
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE REDISTRICTING
COMMITTEE'S REPORT DATED JUNE 20, 2000; AUTHORIZING
THE INTERIM CITY CLERK TO FORWARD THE
REDISTRICTING COMMITTEE'S REPORT TO THE BROWARD
COUNTY SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS' OFFICE; PROVIDING
FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on June 20, 2000, the Redistricting Committee prepared a
Redistricting Report (a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit "A"); and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it
to be in the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to
accept the Redistricting Committee's June 20, 2000 report, and have the Interim
City Clerk forward the report to the Broward County Supervisor of Elections'
Office.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified
and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of
this Resolution.
SECTION 2: That the City Commission of the City of Tamarac accepts the
Redistricting Committee's Report, dated June 20, 2000.

SECTION 3: That the Interim City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a
copy of the Redistricting Committee's Report, dated June 20, 2000, to the
Broward County Supervisor of Elections' Office.
SECTION 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this
Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or
invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining
portions or applications of this Resolution.
SECTION 6: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon
adoption.

Recommendation: It is the recommendation of the Redistricting Committee that the City of
Tamarac Districts be revised as follows:
• Move Precinct 16J out of District 1 and into District 2
• Move Precinct 7J out of District 2 and into District 3
Issue: Redistricting Report after the March 2000 election according to total population.
Background: Ordinance No. 0-99-10, Amending Article VI, Section 6.03 of the Tamarac
Charter entitled "Redistricting", was passed by a majority of the voters at a referendum election
held on March 14, 2000. This Ordinance changed the basis for redistricting from number of
registered voters to total population.
On April 24, 2000 a Redistricting Committee was appointed. The purpose of the Redistricting
Committee is to review the four districts of the City of Tamarac and create districts each
containing between 22.5% and 27.5% of the total population, without dividing a precinct,
residential rental or condominium development, or residential section.
The Redistricting Committee met on May 8, 2000, May 22, 2000, and May 30, 2000.
After review of the Districts and Precincts, the Redistricting Committee submits this report and
recommends that Precinct 16J be moved out of District 1 and into District 2, and Precinct 7J be
moved out of District 2 and into District 3.
District 4 is not affected by any of the suggested changes.
The following are the population and percentage for each District after the proposed precinct
moves:

existing Districts and population within each district (Exhibit 1), and a Proposed City
Commission District Map with Population Estimates, showing the Districts and population in
each district after the proposed precinct moves (Exhibit 2).
