R -- 2000 - 298 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE 2000 GRANT AWARD FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE, UNDER THE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM IN THE AMOUNT OF $20,771 FROM THE BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE; AUTHORIZING A MATCH OF $2,308 IN CASH FROM THE GRANTS MATCHING ACCOUNT FOR A TOTAL PROJECT COST OF $23,079; AMENDING THE GRANTS FUND BUDGET; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac desires to enhance the existing crime prevention and law enforcement programs; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance provides grants for projects that will reduce crimes and improve public safety; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac wishes to improve public safety and enhance its law enforcement programs and accepts Broward Sheriffs Office recommendations in their utilization of the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Funding; and WHEREAS, Resolution R-00-214 of the City Commission of the City of Tamarac authorized the appropriate City officials to apply to the U.S. Department Temp Resolution #9201 October 27, 2000 Page 2 of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance for Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Funding; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice has issued an award notice, hereby attached as Exhibit A approving the City's application for funding and determined that the City is entitled to $20,771; and WHEREAS, any and all funds acquired through this grant will be expended on additional programs and services to be provided to Tamarac residents through the Sheriff's Office; and WHEREAS, any and all assets purchased through this grant will be the property of the City of Tamarac, used by Broward Sheriffs Office District VI and maintained by Broward Sheriffs Office District VI I; and WHEREAS, a Public Hearing regarding the intended purpose areas for the funding has been scheduled for November 8, 2000 pursuant to the requirements of the granting agency; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Tamarac BSO District VII Chief recommend acceptance of the grant award; and WHEREAS, the City Commission deems it to be in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to accept the grant award in the amount of $20,771, with a cash match of $2,308 for a total project cost of $23,079 to enhance law enforcement and crime prevention programs. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: Temp Resolution #9201 October 27, 2000 Page 3 Section 1: The foregoing WHEREAS clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: The City Commission of the City of Tamarac Florida hereby accepts grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance in the amount of $20,771. Section 3: The City Commission hereby authorizes a match to the entitlement amount of $20,771 in the form of $2,308 in cash from the grants matching account for a total project cost of $23,079 to enhance the City of Tamarac's crime prevention and law enforcement programs. Section 4: The City Commission authorizes the appropriate City Officials to amend the grants fund budget in the amount of $20,771 and appropriate said funds including any and all subsequent budgetary transfers to be in accordance with proper accounting procedures. Section 5: All Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 6: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or in application, it shall not affect the validation of the remaining portion or applications of this Resolution.
