R-2000- 33 Y A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING STATE LEGISLATION THAT MAKES AFFORDABLE AND ADEQUATE WINDSTORM INSURANCE COVERAGE OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO FLORIDA PROPERTY OWNERS; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO SEND A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE BROWARD COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION AND THE BROWARD COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FOR CONSIDERATION DURING THE 2001 LEGISLATIVE SESSION; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, property owners in the State of Florida, particularly those in South Florida, face yearly threats of hurricane and tropical storm damage to their homes and property; and WHEREAS, recent State administrative and legislative actions have resulted in significant increases in insurance rates and diminished coverage for property owners throughout the State; and WHEREAS, homeowners in the State of Florida, particularly South Florida, are in need of appropriate windstorm insurance coverage for their property in the event of hurricanes or tropical storms; and WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends approval; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to support State 1 Temp. Reso # 9222 - November 30, 2000 Page 2 legislation that makes affordable and adequate windstorm insurance coverage options available to Florida property owners. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, THAT: Section 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: The City Commission of the City of Tamarac supports State legislation that makes affordable and adequate windstorm insurance coverage options available to Florida property owners. Section 3: The City Clerk is directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Broward County Legislative Delegation and the Broward County Board of County Commissioners for consideration during the 2001 Florida Legislative Session. Section 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or in �1 Temp. Section 6: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 13t" day of December, 2000.
