Evans, City Clerk Bruce Hoffman, Chairman RE: May 14, 1997 CITY CLrr\.r Gal „AA.t(i Suggestions' f Redistricting Committee The task of redistricting should be considered in two segments. First, changes should be made to meet the immediate requirements of the Charter; secondly, we should consider future changes in our Charter and/or changes in the sizes of precincts to make it possible to relocate precincts within the framework of our four districts. Concerning the first requirement, it is recommended that Precinct 16J be transferred from District 1 to District 2. At the same time, Precinct 8J should be transferred from District 2 to District 1. ese transfers would increase District 1 by an additional 599 registered voters and the new district rcentages would be as follows: District 1 23.75% (+1.63%) District 2 23.80% (- 1.63%) District 3 27.09% (No change) 'S r' 4 % (No change) Total 100.00% As the maximum allowable by the Charter is 27.5%, it is obvious that with the present increased residential development in District 3, it will very shortly exceed the Charter's allowable maximum. It is the further recommendation of the Redistricting Committee to reconvene a Workshop to consider the future options available to the City because it will be exceedingly difficult, if not impossible, to redistrict after the next municipal election under the existing conditions. rc: Robert S.
