Reso. #5505 CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA RESOLUTION NO. R-89-a20 9 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA RELATING TO AMENDMENTS TO THE CITY CHARTER; PROVIDING FOR A PROCEDURE TO BE FOLLOWED IN INSTANCES IN WHICH THERE ARE PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE CITY CHARTER THAT MUST BE PLACED ON THE BALLOT FOR VOTER APPROVAL; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, The City Council and the Charter Board wish to establish a procedure for placing Charter Amendments on the ballot for voter approval; and WHEREAS, the procedure outlined below is acceptable to both the City Council and the Charter Board; and WHEREAS, the procedure outlined below is consistent with both the City Charter and Florida Statutory law; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that adoption of the following procedure is in the public interest NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA SECTION 1 The following procedure will be used to place proposed City Charter amendments on the ballot for voter approval: 1. The Charter Board may propose amendments to the City Charter and direct the City Clerk to submit the proposed amendments to the City Council for review. 2. City Council, upon review, shall accept the proposal and adopt same as an Ordinance and direct the City Clerk to place the proposed amendment before the electorate at the next general or special election; or Temp. The City Council shall return the proposed amend- ment to the Charter Board with the City Council's recommendations for revision. 4. If the Charter Board disagrees with the City Council's recommended revisions, upon written notification from the Charter Board, the Mayor shall call a joint session of both the City Council and Charter Board, within 45 days, the purpose of which shall be to adopt a proposed amendment in a form acceptable to both Boards.
