R-89-ev-210 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE APPRO- PRIATE CITY OFFICIALS TO TAKE ALL ACTIONS NECESSARY AND PROPER TO SUPPORT AND ADVOCATE AN ALTERNATIVE CORRIDOR SITE FOR THE PROPOSED FLORIDA POWER AND LIGHT LEVEE -MIDWAY 500 KV TRANSMISSION LINES THAT WOULD RUN ADJACENT TO HIGHWAY U.S. 27; ADDITIONALLY URGING THAT ANY SUBSTATION NEEDED FOR THE LEVEE -MIDWAY TRANS- MISSION POWER LINE BE LOCATED AT A SITE WITHIN THE PROPOSED U.S. HIGHWAY 27 CORRIDOR; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Florida Power and Light (hereinafter referred to as "FPL") has submitted an application pursuant to the Transmission Line Siting Act for approval by the Governor and Cabinet of a corridor that would allow FPL to construct a 500 kv transmission line adjacent to the Sawgrass Expressway within the City of Tamarac; and WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac has objected to FPL's proposed primary and secondary corridor as being harmful to the health, safety and welfare of its citizens through its Final Agency Report incorporated herein by reference and through its participation as a party in the administrative proceeding relative to certification; and WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac has found that FPL's proposed primary and secondary corridors are inconsistent with CITY's adopted Comprehensive Plan; and WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac is becoming increasingly concerned that the impacts of the proposed corridors on the existing and future citizens of the CITY and its neighboring cities have not been and are not being fully considered by FPL; and ' , 1 Temp. Reso. #5515 1 2 3 4 rry 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 I- 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 26 29 0 1 32 33 34 35 36 WHEREAS, the'City of Tamarac takes notice that alterna- tive corridors in the vicinity of the existing 500 kv trans- mission line adjacent to U.S. 27, located in an area where there is little or no urban development, were found to be feasible by FPL, but have not been formally proposed by FPL or any other entity; and WHEREAS, the Transmission Line Siting Act provides that parties to the proceedings may submit alternative corridors for consideration by the Hearing Officer and the Governor and Cabinet; and WHEREAS, the City of Coral Springs and Coral Ridge Properties have taken the initial steps necessary to submit a proposal for an alternative corridor that would run adjacent to U.S. 27; and WHEREAS, the City of Coral Springs and Coral Ridge Properties have requested that the City of Tamarac support their efforts to propose an alternative corridor adjacent to U.S. 27; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: SECTION 1 That,the appropriate City officials are hereby authorized and directed to take all actions necessary and proper to support and advocate an alternative corridor for the proposed Florida Power and Light Levee -Midway 500 kv Transmission Line that would run adjacent to Highway U.S. 27. Reso. #5515 1 2 3 4 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 1 32 33 34 35 36 SECTION 2 : The City of Tamarac also strongly urges that the substation required for the proposed Levee --Midway 500 kv transmission line be located at a site within the proposed U.S. Highway 27 corridor. This recommendation is in lieu of having two 500 kv transmission lines strung parallel for the full length of the western boundary of the City of Tamarac. SECTION 3 This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage. PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 9 day of 1989. ATTEST: CAROL A.
