Reso. #5337 CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA RESOLUTION NO. R-89--,.6y A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC REQUEST- ING THAT THE LEGISLATURE REINSTATE FUNDING TO SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY SERVICES TRUST FUND PROGRAM; PROVIDING FOR TRUE COPIES; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Department of Community Affairs of the State of Florida administers the Community Services Trust Fund by providing grants to applicant cities for monies to be used by such cities to provide foL human services to citizens in need; and WHEREAS, the Community Service Trust Fund Grant pro- vides, among other things, emergency food, shelter, utility and medical costs for those citizens temporarily in need, and therefore such citizens find needed support and are better able to get back to the mainstream of the community's economy; and WHEREAS, in 1988/89 the adopted State budget decreased the amount of monies available for the Community Services Trust Fund from the amount proposed by the Governor's Office and the Department of Community Affairs; and WHEREAS, the Governor's proposed budget for 1989/90 has indicated that it is going to discontinue the Community Services Trust Fund Program; and WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Tamarac and Broward County, Florida, can enjoy and benefit from the Community Services Program and, as a result, the Community as a whole, can be improved; and WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac believes that the Community Services program should be maintained and enhanced; Temp. Reso. #5337 1 2 3 4 5 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 20 21 22 23 24 1 25 1 26 27 28 29 ti 32 33 34 35 36 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, THAT: SECTION 1 : The City Council urges the Florida Legisla- ture to fund the Community Services Trust Fund at a minimum level of $1,000,000.00 (it's 1987/88 funded level) as admini- stered by the Department of Community Affairs. The City Council believes that by requiring a matching grant contribu- tion, local communities will have a larger stake in the overall program and will thereby be encouraged to administer their local programs in an efficient and economic manner. SECTION 2 : That the City Clerk is hereby directed to provide certified copies of this Resolution to Senator Peter Weinstein, House Representatives Peter Deutsch and Ben Graber, Senator Tom McPherson, Chairman of the Broward County i Legislative Delegation, to each of the members of the Broward County Legislation Delegation, to the Broward County League of Cities, to the president of the Florida Senate, Robert Crawford, to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tom Gustafson, and to all the Cities in Broward County.
