CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-88- - /00
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CREATION OF THE
POSITION OF FIRE MARSHAL PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 10,
SECTION 10-2 (A) OF THE CITY CODE; AND PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Tamarac
recognizes the need of the Fire Chief to effectively and
efficiently represent the City in all matters of Fire
Protection (including Fire Suppression, Training, Fire
Investigation, Public Fire Education, Planning Community Fire
Protection, Maintaining Equipment and Property) and Fire
Prevention; and
WHEREAS, the Chief has recognized the need to designate
an individual to be responsible to him in matters of Fire
Prevention; and
WHEREAS, there are currently three (3) Fire Inspectors
assigned to the Fire Prevention Bureau and the Fire Chief
endeavors to appoint one of them to the position of Fire
Marshal.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Tamarac
hereby authorizes the creation of the position of Fire
Marshal as requested by the Fire Chief.
SECTION 2: That the Fire Marshal shall report directly
to the Fire Chief.
SECTION 3: That the Fire Marshal shall undertake all
those responsibilities as designated by the Fire Chief.

SECTION 4: That the Fire Marshal shall have the ability
to represent the Fire Chief in the Chief's absence or at his
request.
SECTION 5: This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon adoption.

[CAL DUTIES:
The position of Fire Marshal is managerial and maJor
is to oversee the function of the Fire Prevention Bureau.
-Establishes and maintains manual of policies and procedures for the Fire
Prevention Bureau
-Assigns and coordinates annual fire Inspections
-Assigns and coordinates investigation of complaints
Reviews building and site plans and Insures fire safety codes are
properly applied
-Insures fire Investigations are conducted
-Coordinates fire safety programs and public education programs of the
Fire Department
-Issues fire -related permits after insuring compliance with applicable
codes
-Maintains records of all activities of the Fire Prevention Bureau
-Reports on activities of Fire Prevention Bureau
-Serves as a source of information on Fire Prevention to all City
departments and the public
-Submits budget proposals to the Fire Chief
-Performs other related duties as may be required by the Department
-Reports directly to the Fire Chief
-Develops and Implements codes essential to the preservation of life and
property within the City
-Develops and Implements programs of the Fire Prevention Bureau
-Supervises activity of all members assigned to Fire Prevention Bureau
activities
-Under the direction of the Fire Chief, serves as the local fire official
In all matters of fire safety
-Controls budget Items pertaining to the Fire Prevention
-Evaluates performance of Inspectors and Fire Prevention Programs
QUALIFICATIONS
-Possess and maintain State Certified Municipal Fire Safety Inspector's
certification
-Possess and maintain Broward County Board of Rules & Appeals Certified
Fire Inspector's certification
--Possess and maintain certification as firefighter (State of Florida)
-Possess the ability to command the Fire Department in the Chief's absence
