CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-88-��F%^
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE APPROPRIATE
CITY OFFICIALS TO DECLARE THE MONTH OF
JULY AS "CRACKDOWN MONTH" IN THE CITY OF
TAMARAC;, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, traffic and use of crack cocaine has become a
national epidemic, affecting the entire society and
community, with direct and indirect implications for all
persons, including but not limited to children in particular;
and
WHEREAS, Broward Crimestoppers has organized a month-
long public action campaign, "Crackdown," to take place
during the month of July, 1988; and
WHEREAS, the "Crackdown" campaign is co -sponsored by the
Archdiocese of Miami, the National Conference of Christians
and Jews, the Broward Sheriff's Office, the Metro Dade Police
Department, the Broward State Attorney, the Broward Crime
Commission, the Council of Fort Lauderdale Civic Organiza-
tions, the Fort Lauderdale N. A. A. C. P., the Broward Urban
League, Dade Crimestoppers, the Broward Police Chiefs
Association, WSVN Television, WAXY -FM Radio and others; and
WHEREAS, "Crackdown" will encourage the public to report
crack -related activities to the police; encourage and
facilitate aggressive law enforcement of such complaints; and
provide considered proposals for reform and future debate so
as to address this crisis more effectively in the future; and
WHEREAS, such community activity is a desirable,
appropriate and needed response to this problem.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:

SECTION 1: That the City of Tamarac hereby declares the
month of July, 1988, "Crackdown Month" in sympathy and
support of the "Crackdown" campaign; to support in word and
deed the efforts of the "Crackdown" campaign; and to
otherwise encourage its police department to pay special and
particular attention to the problem of crack during the month
of July, 1988, as part of the
ongoing and continuous efforts
of this City and its Police Department
to enforce the laws,
and provide for the health,
safety and welfare of its
citizens, is Hereby Approved.
SECTION 2: This Resolution
shall become effective
immediately upon adoption.
