CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-87- 15
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE BOND ISSUE
PROPOSED BY THE SCHOOL BOARD OF BROWARD
COUNTY, FLORIDA TO BE DECIDED UPON BY THE
VOTERS OF BROWARD COUNTY ON JUNE 16, 1987;
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on December 5, 1986, The School Board of
Broward County, Florida approved a plan for a public referen-
dum on a bond issue. Embodied in this plan was the following
goal: to build schools as they are needed, not after they are
needed; to use portables as temporary facilities; and to
assure that all of our school facilities are of consistently
fine quality. Further, the older schools should meet the
same standards as the newer schools; and
WHEREAS, in keeping with this goal, a survey was
completed -of the district's capital and maintenance require-
ments for the period 1987-88 through.1991--92. Those require-
ments were estimated to be $827,325,335. Hence, it is
necessary that a school building program for the district be
carried out in order to afford proper and adequate school
facilities in and for the district; and
WHEREAS, on April 1, 1987, The School Board of Broward
County, Florida approved a resolution wherein it was re-
quested that the Department of Education approve a bond issue
in an amount not to exceed $317,000,000. The purposes of the
bond issue are for: existing school construction for desig-
nated elementary, middle and high schools, and adult centers;
replacement school construction - planning and design, site
acquisition, development and improvement, new construction,
furniture and equipment for designated elementary schools;
new school construction - planning and design, site acquisi-
tion, development and improvement, new construction, furni-
ture and equipment for designated elementary, middle and high

schools,
exceptional centers, and adult
centers;
and
cost of
issuance
- underwriters, election,
printing,
and
other
issuance expenses; and
WHEREAS, on April 14, 1987, The School Board of Broward
County, Florida approved a resolution authorizing and
requesting the Supervisor of Elections to hold a bond elec-
tion on behalf of the School District of Broward County,
Florida to be held on Tuesday, June 16, 1987.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of
Tamarac, Florida hereby endorses the bond election as pro-
posed by The School Board of Broward County, Florida, and
encourages all citizens and residents in the City of Tamarac
to support this bond issue which would benefit the children,
youth and adults of the City of Tamarac and Broward County.
SECTION 2: This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its passage.
