CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO R-87-,2ZJ�
A RESOLUTION URGING THE BOARD OF BROWARD COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS TO PLACE THE QUESTION OF A LOCAL
OPTION SALES TAX FOR INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDS BEFORE
THE VOTERS OF BROWARD COUNTY; AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE,
WHEREAS, the 1987 Legislature of the State of Florida
enacted the "Local Government Infrastructure Commitment Act,"
and
WHEREAS, this legislation was subsequently signed by the
Governor on June 30, 1987, creating Chapter 87-529, Laws of
Florida, and
WHEREAS, this act addresses the needs of local govern-
ments to adequately fund their long-term infrastructure
needs, and
WHEREAS, this act grants to the Board of County Commis-
sioners in each county the authority to place on the ballot,
during a specified period, a referendum to enact a local
option sales tax to be shared by cities and counties and to
be used for infrastructure needs, under certain terms and
conditions, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of Tamarac has identified a
number of projects which meet the criteria set forth in the
"Local Government Infrastructure Commitment Act," and
WHEREAS, the City Council of Tamarac believes the voters
of Broward County, Florida, should have an opportunity to
express their opinion regarding the local option sales tax.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION l: That the City Council of Tamarac urges the
Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida, to
place the question of a local option sales tax for infra-
structure needs before the voters of this county.
