CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-87 43
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RELATING TO SALES TAX ON PROFESSIONAL
SERVICES; URGING CONTINUATION OF THE EXEMP-
TION;,._ AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. _ _
WHEREAS, Chapter 86-166, Laws of Florida, provides for a
repeal of the professional services exemption to the tax on
sales, use, and other transactions, now codified in Fla.
Stat. 212.08 (1985), effective July 1, 1987; and
WHEREAS? Chapter 86-166 provides for a commission whose
members are appointed by the President of the Senate, the
Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Governor,
which Commission's purpose is to review the public policy and
fiscal impact of the professional services exemption from the
sales tax in order to recommend in a report to be furnished
to the State Legislature prior to the 1987 regular session,
whether to retain, modify or allow the expiration of the
professional services exemption; and
WHEREAS, it is obvious that the effect of a modifica-
tion, repeal, or expiration of said exemption would be to
further deter and preclude Florida's elderly and poor, as
well as other classes of her citizens, from obtaining desper-
ately needed professional services;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION, 1: Be it known to the Governor of the State of
Florida, the Speaker of the House of Representatives,
President of the Senate, and to the current State Senators
and State House members, that:

FLORIDA'S CITIZENRY WOULD NOT BE SERVED BY
ELIMINATING THE CURRENT SALES, USE, AND OTHER
TRANSACTIONS TAX EXEMPTION FOR PROFESSIONAL
SERVICES AS A TAX FOR THESE SERVICES WOULD
OPERATE TO FURTHER REMOVE THEM FROM THE REACH
AND AFFORDABILITY OF FLORIDA'S ELDERLY, HER
POOR, AND ALL HER CLASSES OF CITIZENS;
THEREFORE WE STRONGLY OPPOSE ANY AND ALL
EFFORTS AND ATTEMPTS TO ELIMINATE OR MODIFY
OR PERMIT THE EXPIRATION OF THE PROFESSIONAL
SERVICES EXEMPTION TO THE TAX ON SALES, USE,
AND OTHER TRANSACTIONS, AND STRONGLY ENCOUR-
AGE_ THOSE PERSONS SUPPLIED WITH A COPY OF
THIS RESOLUTION TO DO EVERYTHING WITHIN THEIR
RESPECTIVE ABILITIES AND POWERS TO PREVENT
SAID EXEMPTION'S EXPIRATION, REPEAL OR
MODIFICATION.
SECTIQN --Z: The City Council of the City of Tamarac
directs that a certified copy of this Resolution be furnished
to: the Governor, the Senate and House Presidents, the
Broward Legislative Delegation, and all other concerned and
appropriate persons.
SECTIQj�3: This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon adoption.
