CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-87-.3 S
A RESOLUTION URGING THE FLORIDA LEGIS-
LATURE TO REGULATE PHYSICIAN CHARGES FOR
THE TREATMENT OF SENIOR CITIZENS; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, rising costs of physician services have become a
serious problem for senior citizens in the Nation and for
Florida residents; and
WHEREAS, twenty-six states have implemented limits on
doctor fees; and
WHEREAS, physician fees are worrisome and disconcerting
to the health and well --being of fixed income senior citizens
because of the danger of complete depletion of life savings and
financial bankruptcy for citizens who incur expensive physician
costs; and
WHEREAS, there are legislature solutions such as a plan
in Massachusetts which limits doctor fees to the amounts
Medicare will allow and said plan has been determined to be
valid and constitutional by the courts; and
WHEREAS, it is a critical need of Florida senior citizens
that a legislative solution be devised to alleviate this
pervasive problem that affects so many Floridians and it is
within the power and authority of the Florida Legislature to
study the problem and develop a solution.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Tamarac urges
the Florida Legislature to enact a bill to provide that senior
citizens of Florida will be protected from financial disaster
as a result of the escalation of doctor fees by mandating
physicians to agree not to charge or collect from patients any
amount in excess of the reasonable charge for services as
determined by Medicare unless a special agreement has been
