R-87-_Z�e_ A RESOLUTION URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO ADOPT PROPOSED HOUSE BILL NO. 24 PERTAINING TO PROPOSED EXEMPTIONS OF VOLUNTEERS AND NONPROFIT ASSOCIATIONS INVOLVED IN YOUTH ATHLETIC PROGRAMS FROM CERTAIN CIVIL LIABILITY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, various youth athletic programs play a signifi- cant role in the social, physical, and educational develop- ment of our nation's youth; and WHEREAS, volunteers and nonprofit associations perform vital services which enable the various youth athletic programs to exist; and WHEREAS, in recent years volunteers and nonprofit associations have been subjected to lawsuits resulting from incidents that occur during athletic events; and WHEREAS, the continued threat of litigation is seriously jeopardizing athletic programs and discouraging volunteers and nonprofit associations from participating in said programs; and WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature needs to urgently consider this problem in order to ensure that the youth of Florida enjoy the benefits of athletic programs conducted by volunteers and nonprofit associations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: SECTION 1: That the City of Tamarac, on behalf of all residents, urgently request that the Florida Legislature adopt proposed House Bill No. 24, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part hereof as Exhibit "A", which would exempt volunteers and nonprofit associations from certain civil liability. we Temp.
