CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-87- Q 3
A RESOLUTION ENDORSING CRITERIA APPLICABLE TO
CITY OF TAMARAC STREET LIGHTING; AND PROVID-
ING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, adequate street lighting is required for the
safety and welfare of the residents of Tamarac; and
WHEREAS, the City Code stipulates pursuant to Section
24-23(B)(1) that the City Engineer and the franchise electric
utility shall approve the design for street lighting; and
WHEREAS, the criteria presently being used by the City
Engineer for installation of street lights has resulted in
numerous complaints from Tamarac residents; and
WHEREAS, the change from mercury vapor to high pressure
sodium vapor lights has resulted in numerous complaints from
Tamarac residents; and
WHEREAS, the Director of Utilities/Engineering has
recommended the following criteria;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That for residential areas having 50 feet or
60 feet wide Right -of -Way the additional street lights shall
be 9500 lumin cobra head, 30 foot poles, with 6 foot brackets
located at each street intersection; and at locations where
location of streets substantially changes (or at canal
crossings) spaced 165 feet to 215 feet center to center.
SECTION 2: That the main roads having 80 foot or wider
Right -of -Way, the additional street lights shall be 22,000
lumin cobra head, on 35 foot poles, with 8 foot brackets
located with two (2) at each intersection diagonally across
from each other, and spaced 200 feet to 275 feet center to
center.

SECTION 3: This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its passage.
