CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION R-86-Ze?,Z
A RESOLUTION, OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC,
FLORIDA, DECLARING THE CITY COUNCIL'S
OPPOSITION TO ADOPTION OF A UNIFORM
STATE-WIDE BUILDING CODE; ENCOURAGING
AND REQUESTING OTHER CITY COUNCILS
WITHIN BROWARD COUNTY AS WELL AS THE
BROWARD COUNTY COMMISSION TO PASS
RESOLUTIONS OPPOSING ADOPTION OF A
UNIFORM STATE --WIDE BUILDING CODE;
ENCOURAGING OTHER CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
AND BROWARD COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO
INFORM THEIR APPROPRIATE STATE LEGIS-
LATORS OF ACTIONS TAKEN BY THEIR
GOVERNING BODIES IN OPPOSITION TO A
UNIFORM STATE-WIDE BUILDING CODE;

WHEREAS, the Hroward County League of Cities has within
the last year taken a firm stand opposing adoption of a
Uniform or State -Wide Building Code; and
WHEREAS, the Florida League of Cities has adopted
Resolutions opposing a State -Wide Uniform Building Code,
restrictions on local amendments to Codes, and State inter-
pretations of local codes; and
WHEREAS, the Standard Building Code, proposed as the
Uniform Building Code, is administratively weak as compared
to the South Florida Building Code and would eliminate those
standards established for Building Officials and Inspectors
within the South Florida Building Code; and
WHEREAS, the adoption of the Standard Building Code as a
State -Wide Building Code would eliminate the Cities current
Board of Rules and Appeals, as well as eliminate those
standards for building apartments adopted after several Grand
Jury reports; and
WHEREAS, the adoption of the Standard Building Code as a
State -Wide Building Code would not afford equal protection of
buildings against hurricanes to the extent which the South
Florida Building Code presently does;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SZCT ON 1: The Tamarac City Council affirms its
strong opposition to adoption of Uniform State -Wide Building
Code and requests that each Broward City Council as well as
the Broward County Commission pass Resolutions opposing
adoption of a Uniform State -Wide Building Code and informing
their appropriate State Legislators of such action.
SECTIQN 2: The City Clerk is hereby directed to send
copies to the Broward League of Cities; each Broward Munici-
pality; Broward County Commissioners; Senator Peter
Weinstein; Representatives Peter Deutsch and Joseph Titone.

tive immediately upon passage.
