CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-86--6_
A RESOLUTION REGARDING A CONTRACT FOR
MUNICIPAL POLICE SERVICES WITH THE
BROWARD SHERIFF'S OFFICE, ESTABLISHING
CITY COUNCIL PROCEDURES, DIRECTING STAFF
TO NEGOTIATE A CONTRACT, PREPARE AN ORD-
INANCE AND ESTABLISH A REFERENDUM; AND
WHEREAS, the Broward County Sheriffs office has
expressed an interest in providing police services on a
contract basis, to the City of Tamarac; and
WHEREAS, many residents and Tamarac police officials
support such a concept; and
WHEREAS, the Tamarac City Council desires to have a
specific contract proposal drafted for consideration by the
Council and approval by the electorate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
E T ON That the City Council authorizes and directs
the City Manager, Acting City Attorney and Police Chief to
meet as a negotiating committee with Sheriff Nick Navarro or
his designees so as to prepare a written contract
in the best interest of the City for consideration by the
City Council and approval by the electorate.
SECTIQN 2: That the City Attorney shall prepare an
ordinance authorizing the contract with the Sheriff to supply
municipal police services to the City of Tamarac conditioned
upon approval of Council and the electorate in a referendum.
SECT_LQN_3: That the Contract and Ordinance and referen-
dum question referred to above shall be completed by August
1, 1986. The Mayor and City Council shall establish special
meetings as may be needed to finalize these documents.

SECTION-4:S That prior to any referendum, the City shall
provide a summary of the provisions of the proposed contract
to the residents. This summary will be sent to
each resident by United States mail at least fourteen (14)
days prior to the referendum election.
S-MION_,_.1: That this resolution shall be effective
immediately upon adoption.
