A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC, FLORIDA, TO BE DIRECTED TO THE BOARD OF
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA,
OBJECTING TO ANY AND ALL PLANS OF BROWARD COUNTY,
FLORIDA, FROM TAKING OVER FIRE SERVICES CURRENTLY
PROVIDED BY THE VARIOUS AND SEVERAL MUNICIPALITIES
IN BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA; PROVIDING FOR EMPHASIS
TO THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS REGARDING THE
EXCELLENCE OF EXISTING FIRE SERVICES IN THE CITY
OF TAMARAC AND EMPHASIZING THE NEED TO MAINTAIN
DOMINION AND CONTROL OF LOCAL FIRE SERVICE MATTERS
TO LOCAL GOVERNMENT; REQUESTING THAT THE BOARD OF
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA,
AUTHORIZE AND DIRECT THE TRANSFER OF FIRE SERVICES
FROM THE UNINCORPORATED AREAS OF BROWARD COUNTY,
FLORIDA, BY ADJACENT MUNICIPALITIES IN BROWARD
• COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO ASSURE A CONSISTENT AND COM-
PATIBLE SYSTEM OF FIRE SERVICES THROUGHOUT ALL OF
BROWARD COUNTY; .AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY '
• CLERK OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, TO TRANSMIT
CERTIFIED COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE BOARD OF
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND
THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATION EMPHASIZING THE NEED TO
RETAIN MUNICIPAL CONTROL OF MUNICIPAL FIRE SERVICES
AND TO REQUEST THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO
PERMIT THE ASSUMPTION AND ASSIMILATION OF UNINCORPO-
RATED FIRE SERVICES INTO THE SYSTEMS OF THE VARIOUS
AND SEVERAL MUNICIPALITIES; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS;
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac, as with many other cities in Broward County,
Florida, maintains a Fire Services Division second to none in Broward County,

WHEREAS, years of experience, professionalism, and expert training provided
to the Fire Services Division of Tamarac, Florida, has operated in a timely and
efficient manner over the many years since its creation and to permit an assimila-
tion or take-over of the municipal system of fire services from Tamarac to Broward
County would be inconsistent with the procedures, practices and safety of all the
citizens and residents of Tamarac, Florida; and
• WHEREAS; it has come to the attention of this City Council that once again

Broward County is contemplating an assimilation or take-over procedure for all
incorporated municipal fire services divisions in order to create a metropolitan
and/or countywide services division contrary to the needs of not only Tamarac,
Florida, but other municipalities affected;

2 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
3 TAMARAC, FLORIDA, THAT:
4 SECTION 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
5 confirmed as being true and correct upon the adoption of this Resolution.
SECTION 2: This City Council hereby publicly declares its opposition and
�•. 7 objection to any attempt or interest of the Board of County Commissioners of
8 Broward County, Florida, from assimilating or take-over the Fire Services Division
9 of the City of Tamarac or any other municipality similarly affected consistent with
10 practices and procedures of fire safety, fire management and the fire protection.
11 SECTION 3: Contrary to the apparent directives of the Board of County
12 Commissioners of Broward County, Florida, this City Council hereby publicly finds
13 and determines that it is in the best interest of all the citizens and residents of
14 Tamarac, Florida, and of Broward County, for adjacent municipalities to absorb,
15 assimilate and to assume the duties and responsibilities of the unincorporated fire
16 services currently managed and controlled by Broward County not for any parochial
17 or local need for control but for an overall concern for the health, safety and
18 welfare of all the citizens and residents of Broward County, Florida.
SECTION 4• The City -Clerk of the City of Tamarac, Florida, is hereby
20 authorized and directed to transmit certified copies of this Resolution to the
21 Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida, and to the County Adminis-
22 tration specifically objecting to the County's desire or need to assimilate and to
23 assume the existing Fire Services Division of the City of Tamarac and any other City
24 which seeks to maintain the integrity of its Fire Services Division and the public
25 needs of the citizenry.
26 SECTION 5: This City Council further finds and determines and declares its
27 position to request the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida, to
28 permit the City of Tamarac to assume and to control the adjacent unincorporated
29 fire services personnel, equipment and systems to best meet the needs not only of
30 the municipality of Tamarac but of those residents of unincorporated Broward County
1 who can be served by the past excellence of the Fire Services Division of the City
2 of Tamarac, Florida.

SECTION 6: All Resolutions or parts of Resolutions, Ordinances or parts of
Ordinances in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed to the extent
of such conflict.
SECTION 7: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
