CITY OF TTJ,4ARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-84-32
A RESOLUTION URGING THE BROWARD COUNTY LEAGUE OF
CITIES TO AMEND ITS BY LAWS TO PROVIDE THAT THE
NUMBER OF VOTES ASSIGNED TO THE VARIOUS MEMBER
MUNICIPALITIES BE AMENDED TO MAKE THE VOTING MORE
FAIR AND EQUITABLE TO THE SMALLER CITIES; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the present system of weighted voting on a population
basis -is not fair or equitable to the smaller cities, and
WHEREAS, the two or three largest cities have control of a total
number of votes that can as a practical matter, negate the votes of
all the remaining member .municipalities; and
.9HEREAS, in recognition of this problem both the National League
of Cities and the Florida League of Cities have set a cup on the total
number of votes the largest member cities can be assigned; and
WHEREAS, the Broward County League of Cities should amend its By
Laws to provide a cap on the total number of votes assigned to any
particular member municipality.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the City Council of Tamarac hereby urges the
Droward County League of Cities to amend its By Laws to provide that
the number of votes assigned to the various member municipalities be
amended to make the voting more fair and equitable to the smaller
cities.
SECTION 2: That placing a cap on the total number of votes the
largest member cities can be assigned would correct the problem.
SECTIOiv 3: That the City Clerk is hereby directed to provide a
copy of this Resolution to the Broward County League of Cities and
each participating municipality.

SECTION 4: This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
