HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity of Tamarac Resolution R-84-014Introduced by Temp. ## 07 1 1 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 4 15 II, 16 1 i 17 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 29 30 31 32 33 34 CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA RESOLUTION N0. �f1 A RESOLUTION OBJECTING TO THE RATE INCREASE REQUESTED BY FLORIDA POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY PARTICULARLY BECAUSE THE REQUEST DISCONTINUES THE INVERTED OR LIFELINE RATE FOR LOW VOLUME CONSUMERS OF ELECTRICITY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the present rate structure of Florida Power and Light Company includes an inverted or lifeline rate for consumers who use 750 kilowatts of electricity per month or less; and WHEREAS, the present inverted or lifeline rate benefits and protects senior citizens and others on fixed incomes, placing the burden of payment more fairly based on the ability to pay; and WHEREAS, in this modern age of technology electricity is not a luxury, but a necessity to sustaining life in every Florida household; and WHEREAS, a request to increase its rates has been filed with the Florida Public Service Commission by Florida Power and Light Company and that request includes the discontinuance of the inverted or lifeline rate; and WHEREAS, that rate increase request which is presently under consideration would adversely affect most of the citizens of the City of Tamarac; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY SECTION 1: That the City Council goes on record as being opposed to the requested rate increase and the removal of the inverted or lifeline rate for consumers using 750 kilowatts or less of electricity 001 Temp. ##. a month that has been proposed by Florida Power and Light Company. The 3 City Council urges the Public Service Commission to keep any rate increase 4 to a minimum and in any event to maintain a discount for low volume 5 consumers. 6 SECTION 2: That the City Council urges its citizens to make known their objections by contacting the Florida Public Service 8 - Commission. 9 10 SECTION 3: That the City Clerk is authorized and directed to send a copy of this Resolution to each member of the Florida Public Service Commission, 101 East Gaines Street, Tallahassee, Florida 32301.
