Rev. 10/26/83 RESOLUTION NO. -'J w- 0 A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE NEED FOR THE WIDENING OF UNIVERSITY DRIVE (STATE ROAD 817) THROUGH THE CITY OF TAMARAC, THE CONSTRUCTION OF COMMERCIAL BOULEVARD WEST TO THE SAWGRASS EXPRESSWAY AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF NOB HILL ROAD (NORTHWEST 100TH AVENUE) FROM COMMERCIAL BOULEVARD TO MCNAB ROAD, URGING A MEETING OF THE APPROPRIATE OFFICIALS FOR PLANNING AND FUNDING; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, University Drive (State Road 817) is a major North -South transportation artery in Broward County; and WHEREAS, University Drive passes through the City of Tamarac connecting the City of Lauderhill at Commercial Boulevard to the South with the City of Coral Springs at Southgate Boulevard to the North; and WHEREAS, the portion of University Drive from Commercial Boulevard, South for 1.7 miles in the City of Lauderhill has been designated by the Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization, Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and the Florida Department of Transportation for widening from four (4) to six (6) lanes in fiscal year 1983/1984 (State Road Project Number 410248); and WHEREAS, University Drive from Southgate Boulevard, North in the City of Coral Springs has already been widened to six (6) lanes; and WHEREAS, the widening of University Drive from four (4) lanes to six (6) lanes through the City of Tamarac is needed to serve present and future traffic needs, and to prevent a bottleneck of traffic or a safety hazard; and WHEREAS, the planned Commercial Boulevard exit of the Sawgrass Expressway and the new regional Coral Springs Square will place even greater demand on University Drive; and 1 Temp. # 2891 1 2 3 d 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 5 7 I$ 19 20 21 23 24 25 26 27 28 .:x 32 33 34 35 WHEREAS, Commercial Boulevard is less than six (6) lanes West of Northwest 91st. Avenue to Nab Hill Road (Northwest 100th Avenue) and is not yet constructed West of Nob Hill Road; and WHEREAS, Nob Hill Road has not yet been constructed between Commercial Boulevard and McNab Road. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: SECTION 1: That a meeting be held with the appropriate State, County and City Officials to consider the planning and funding of widening the 2.25 miles of University Drive through Tamarac connecting the cities of Lauderhill and Coral Springs, the construction or widening of Commercial Boulevard from Northwest 51st. Avenue, West to the Sawgrass Expressway and the construction of Nob Hill Road between Commercial Boulevard and McNab Road. SECTION 2: That the Mayor of Tamarac or his designee is appointed by the City Council to coordinate this implementation on behalf of the City of Tamarac.
