RESOLUTION NO. R-83- ry2X%
A RESOLUTION URGING THE BROWARD COUNTY
SCHOOL BOARD TO PROVIDE SCHOOL BUS TRANS-
PORTATION FOR ALL THE STUDENTS OF PINEWOOD
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WHO ARE RESIDENTS OF
SHAKER VILLAGE IN TAMARAC SINCE SOME OF
THE RESIDENTS AT SHAKER VILLAGE ARE ALREADY
RECEIVING THE SERVICE; AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE T
WHEREAS, the Tamarac City Council is concerned about the
school busing practice that exists at Shaker Village Develop-
ment, 40 Meachem Lane, Tamarac; and
WHEREAS, the two (2) mile school busing minimum distance
requirement divides the Shaker Village Development in half,
servicing some of the families and refusing service to the
others in the same complex; and
WHEREAS, Broward County presently sends a school bus
every school day to the Shaker Village Development and no
additional distance would be traveled, or stops made, by the
school bus if the entire development was serviced; and
WHEREAS, residents of Shaker Village Development feel
they have not been properly heard by the Broward County
School Board on this matter and that their children have
arbitrarily been taken off school buses and required to walk
to Pinewood Elementary School, 2000 Southwest 83rd Avenue,
passing many traffic hazards along the way.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC FLORIDA:
That the City Council of the City of
Tamarac hereby urges the County School Board to consider the
following:
A. Authorize a complete review of the
minimum mileage requirement as it
relates to the children who live in
Shaker Village, especially since the
path of travel is along busy Commercial
Boulevard; and

B. Consider the complaint of the parents
of these children that they have not
been properly heard in this matter, and'
the members of the Broward County School
Board are encouraged to do whatever is
necessary to resolve this matter as
quickly as possible keeping the safety
of the children and the spirit not just
the letter of the law,as top priorities.
SECTION 2: That as an indication of the City Coun-
cil's strong feelings on this subject, the City Clerk is
directed to send a copy of this Resolution to each of the
Members of the Broward County School Board.
SECTION 3: That this Resolution shall be effective
upon its approval.
