A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE RECOHMENDATIONS
CONCERNING ELIMINATION OF VOCATIONAL, TECHNICAL
AND ADULT EDUCATION FROM HIGH SCHOOLS, TRANSFERRING
VOCATIONAL, TECHNICAL AND ADULT EDUCATION TO OOMMUNITY
COLLEGES, EXTENDING THE TIME LIMITS FOR ELIGIBILITY
FOR COMPLETION OF GED AND ELIMINATION OF HOME
ECONOMIC EDUCATION IN HIGH SCHOOLS CONTAINED IN THE
1983 REPORT ON SECONDARY EDUCATION BY THE GOVERNOR'S
COMNLCSSION ON SECONDARY SCHOOLS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Council of Tamarac has reviewed recommendations

contained in the 1983 Report on Secondary Education released by the Governor's
Commission an Secondary Schools; and
WHEREAS, the Braward County School Board has invested $28,000,000.00
in vocational, technical and adult education facilities and programs; and
WHEREAS, the Broward Regional Coordinating Council on vocational,
technical and adult education has been operating effectively to eliminate duplication
and overlapping of offerings; and
WHEREAS, the Broward Regional Coordinating Council has provided for
articulation in certain technical offerings between the secondary and post -secondary
levels; and
WHEREAS, many high school dropouts would be greatly handicapped by
extending the eligibility for qualifying for the GED; and
WHEREAS, Home Economics and Consumer Education programs are vital
in the improvement of home and family life for both boys and girls.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SECTION 1: That the City council, has reviewed the 1983 Report on
Secondary Education by the Governor's Commission on Secondary Schools, and is in
opposition to the following recommendations.
A. Elimination of vocational, technical and adult education in
Broward County High Schools.
B: Transfer of vocational, technical and adult education to. -area
com amity colleges.
C. Extension of time limitations for eligibility in qualifying
for GO.
D. Elimination of Home Economics and Consumer Education in the
high schools.

SECTION 2. That the City Council recognizes and supports the
Resolution passed by the Broward Regional Coordinating Council on March 18, 1983,
regarding opposition to any change in governance of vocational, technical and adult
education.
SECTION 3. That a copy of this Resolution shall be forwarded to
the following persons: Robert Graham, Governor, Marie Harrington, Chairman,
Broward County School Board, Dr. William T. McFatter, Superintendent, Broward County
Schools, Dr. Hugh Adams, President of the Broward County Coumunity Colleges,
Winne Dickinson, Director of Vocational Education, Broward County, and to all other
municipalities in Broward County.
SECTION 4. That this Resolution shall take effect upon adoption.
