CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-82-'-'Z72
A RESOLUTION URGING THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS, BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA,
TO REJECT THE SELECTION OF SITE "H" FOR
SOLID WASTE LANDFILL PURPOSES; AND PROV-
IDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, at the September 14, 1982, meeting of the Board of
County Commissioners, Broward County, Florida, the Board directed staff
to further explore the feasibility and/or practicality of using Site
"H" for solid waste landfill purposes; and
WHEREAS, the staff of Water and Wastewater Division, Broward
County, finds that:
a. $8,380,282 in Federal/State EPA "201" Wastewater grants have
already been received or approved for construction of sludge
treatment and disposal facilities at Site "H"; and
b. Selection of Site "H" would result in a requirement to reim-
burse Federal/State authorities for "201" grant funds already
received; and
c. Selection of Site "H" would result in a loss of $5.8 million
in grant funds already approved for construction of sludge
treatment and disposal facilities at Site "H"; and
d. Selection of Site "H" would require the North Regional System
to acquire a new site and result in substantal increases in
sludge transport and disposal costs to the detriment of all
existing Large Users; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac is a Large User of the North Region
al System, and thereby would: incur a substantial loss of shared grant
funds; be assessed significant new costs to replace existing grant fund
be required to pay a proportionate share of increased costs at alternat
facilities; and, pay increased operations and maintenance costs for
sludge treatment and disposal.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC,
FLORIDA:

SECTION l: That the Council of the City of Tamarac, Florida,
urges the Board of County Commissioners, Broward County, Florida,
to reject selection of Site "H" for Solid Waste Landfill purposes.
SECTION 2: The City Clerk is directed to mail a copy of this resolution
to each Commissioner on the Broward County Board of Couinty. Commissioners
and Floyd Johnson,County Administrator at 201 S.E. 6th Street,
Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 33301.
SECTION 3: This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
