RESOLUTION NO. R- gX �:/�
A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE LOCATION OF A
COUNTY JAIL ANNEX AT CCkg4E CIAL BOULEVAPD
AND NW 21 AVENUE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFEC-
TIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac has learned that serious consideration is
being given by the County to locating a jail annex at the Friedrich Aix condition-
ing Factory at Ccmnercial Boulevard and NW 21 Avenue, Fort Lauderdale; and
WHEREAS, in our opinion the proposed location of this facility adjacent
to residential areas occupied principally by senior citizens who have lived for
many years in these homes and this facility cannot be anything but a hazard to
to their safety, health and welfare; and
WHEREAS, this proposed facility's location is adjacent to the Fort
Lauderdale Executive Airport and railroad facilities which could be used as
of escape; and
WHEREAS, in our opinion the cost of acquisition and conversion of the
Friedrich Factory for temporary housing to solve the County's jail overcrowding
problem is prohibitive.
NUV, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA.
SECTION 1: In view of the above recitals, the City is vehemently and
unalterably opposed to the location of a County Jail annex at the Friedrich Air
Conditioning Factory at Commercial Boulevard and NW 21 Avenue.
SECTION 2: The City Clerk is instructed to forward copies of this
resolution to the Broward County Commission, the City Commission of Fort Lauder-
dale and any surrcund-ina_m micipalit es.
SECTION 3: This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
