CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. ,% _
A RESOLUTION OPPOSING INCREASE OF THE STATE SALES TAX;
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. _
WHEREAS, the State of Florida currently imposes a 4% sales tax on
most goods; and
WHEREAS, proposals have been made to increase said sales tax to
5%; and
WHEREAS, the State of Florida and the City of Tamarac are
comprised, to very large degrees, of senior citizens on fixed incomes, and
WHEREAS, this proposed tax will affect, in an adverse manner, all
persons on fixed incomes; and
WHEREAS, this proposal will also impose a hardship on people with
limited incomes; and
WHEREAS, South Florida traditionally has not received its fair
share of monies collected by the State; and
WHEREAS, Tamarac would be surprised if dollar for dollar collected
was returned to South Florida for improvements; and
WHEREAS, it is a well known fact that the State of Florida is not
adequately enforcing existing sales tax regulations by not providing
stringent inspection of any audit programs which would provide substantial
increased revenues to the State.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the City Council is unalterably opposed to the
additional one cent sales tax increase for the reasons set forth above.
SECTION 2: That the City Council urges the Florida legislature to
defeat this proposal.

SECTION 3: That a copy of this Resolution shall be provided to
all members of the Broward County Legislative Delegation, to the Broward
League of Cities and to the Florida League of Cities.
SECTION 4: That this Resolution shall become effective upon
adoption.
