Introduced by:C` Temp. No. 1822
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-_ 7
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, URGING CONSIDERATION OF
A SPECIAL CENSUS FOR THE CITY OF TAMARAC; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Federal Bureau of the Census is obligated to
conduct a census every ten years; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac has experienced significant
growth since the 1970 census; and
WHEREAS, methodology employed nationwide and in the City of
Tamarac to conduct a census met with limited acceptance by the
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, unofficial figures of housing units and persons per
household are questioned by the City of Tamarac; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac census was divided into three
districts administered by two offices, part of the count taken
through the Palm Beach County Office and part through the Fort
Lauderdale City Office; and
WHEREAS, the use of two offices for one city census cannot
guarantee accuracy; and
WHEREAS, the number of utility hookups is in apparent
conflict with the census figure reported; and
WHEREAS, the date of the enumeration was taken when many
Florida and Tamarac residents were in Northern areas;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the April lst census date makes accuracy of
the City of Tamarac population totals questionable because of
seasonal residency.
SECTION 2: That enumeration districts can best be drawn in
cooperation with local municipalities so as to make district
population figures suitable for municipal planning functions.
SECTION 3: That a disparity could have been created by
dividing the City of Tamarac into three districts administered
through two census offices.

SECTION 4: That there be some consideration for the inclusion

allocations based on population.

data could be obtained through more local review and cpoperation'
with the municipal planner and other officials of the city.

that the city urges the consideration of the sponsorship of a
special census for the city.

Census Bureau of the United States; Senator Lawton Chiles and
Senator Paula Hawkins in Washington; Broward League of Cities; West
Broward Council of City Governments; Board of County Commissioners.
