CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION PROTESTING LOSS OF SENIOR CITIZEN HOMESTEAD REVENUES
BY MUNICIPALITIES.
WHEREAS, municipalities have been receiving reimbursement of Senior
Citizen Homestead monies from the State of Florida, and
WHEREAS, said reimbursements have been a significant portion of the
revenues of the City of Tamarac, and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac's population is largely composed of
senior citizens, and
WHEREAS, the Truth-in-Millage bill enacted by the Florida Legislature
in 1980 ceases the state policy of reimbursing municipalities lost homestead
monies under senior citizen exemption, and
WHEREAS, this loss would constitute approximately $120,000.00 in lost
revenues to the City of Tamarac for fiscal year 1981/82, and
WHEREAS, the City would have to increase taxes or find another source
of revenues to make up that $120,000.00,and
WHEREAS,this State heretofore had provided a source of revenues to
municipalities whenever another source was taken away, and
FLORIDA:
WHEREAS, that does not appear to have happened in this case.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC,
SECTION l: That the Florida Legislature is urged to restore reimbursement
of senior citizen homestead monies to municipalities or to provide an alternate
funding source beginning in fiscal year 1981/82.
SECTION 2: A copy of this Resolution shall be furnished to all members
of the Broward County Legislative Delegation and to the Broward League of Cities.
SECTION 3: This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
