A RESOLUTION URGING CONSTRUCTION OF A TRAFFIC LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION OF PINE ISLAND ROAD AND N.W. 57TH STREET. WHEREAS, N.W. 57th Street was constructed as a major East/West thoroughfare, and WHEREAS, for many, many years N.W. 57th Street was considered to be Commercial Blvd., and WHEREAS, during the period when N.W. 57th Street was considered as Commercial Blvd. there was much construction adjacent to said street, and WHEREAS, upon completion of Commercial Blvd., west of N.W. 63rd Avenue, 57th Street's usage has somewhat declined, and WHEREAS, there are still many hours during the week when use of N.W. 57th Street is extremely heavy, and WHEREAS, N.W. 57th Street is located less than 600 feet from Commercial Blvd., and WHEREAS, Broward County staff has been using this 600 foot measurement as the barrier to the erection of a traffic light at the intersection of N.W. 57th Street and Pine Island road, and WHEREAS, this distance does not detract from the existence of the need for the traffic light, and WHEREAS, there have been vehicular accidents at the intersection, and WHEREAS, there has been traffic congestion at this intersection, and WHEREAS, synchronization of a traffic light at N.W. 57th Street and Pine Island Road with the traffic light at Commercial Blvd. and Pine Island Road would appear to be extremely feasible, and WHEREAS, lack of a traffic light at the intersection of N.W. 57th Street and Pine Island Road could delay some response time of EMS vehicles and Fire Department equipment crossing Pine Island Road, and WHEREAS, there already are numerous other places in the County where traffic lights are less than 600 feet apart, and WHEREAS, the City Council finds and determines that it would be in 1 2 3 4 11 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 .7 9 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 -0 i 32 33 34 35 36 the best interests of the citizens of Tamarac for a traffic light to be constructed at the intersection of N.W. 57th Street and Pine Island Road. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: SECTION 1: That the above referenced findings of fact are found to be true and correct. SECTION 2: That the Tamarac City Council urges and implores the Broward County Commission to do everything within its power to assist its constitutents in Tamarac and see that a traffic light is installed at the intersection of Pine Island Road and N.W. 57th Street.
