CITY OF TAMARAC,FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-2019-
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC RECOGNIZING THE SISTER CITY PROGRAM
ESTABLISHED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES IN 1956;
AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC IN SISTER CITIES INTERNATIONAL; PROVIDING FOR
CONFLICTS;PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND PROVIDING FOR
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Sister City program also known as the "People-to-People" Program was
inaugurated by the President of the United States in 1956 to establish greater friendship and
understanding between the people of the United States and other nations through the medium of
direct personal contact; and,
WHEREAS,many countries have endorsed this program and have joined with numerous
cities of the United States in adopting and implementing programs for the exchange of ideas and
visitations of people; and,
WHEREAS,the League of Cities and cities,large and small,have endorsed,accepted and
adopted the SISTER CITY concept; and,
WHEREAS, the City Commission does recognize and endorse this program as a means
of establishing a lasting friendship between the people of different countries, and the people of
Tamarac; and,
WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to establish friendship relations with one city
in a Caribbean Country, one city in a Latin American Country, one City in Europe and one city in
Israel; and,

WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be in the
best interests of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to become a member of Sister
Cities International.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC,FLORIDA,THAT:
Section 1: The foregoing"WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being
true and correct, and are made a specific part of this Resolution upon adoption hereof.
Section 2:The appropriate City Officials are hereby authorized to take all actions necessary
to effectuate the City Commission's desire to establish the Sister Cities program in Tamarac,
including the execution of the required applications and payment of the required fee for
membership in Sister Cities International and exploration of relationships with Sister Cities
International member cities in located in Caribbean countries,Latin American countries,European
countries and in Israel.
Section 3: All resolutions inconsistent or in conflict herewith shall be and are hereby
repealed insofar as there is conflict or inconsistency.
Section 4: If any section, sentence, clause, or phrase of this resolution is held to be invalid
or unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction,then such holding shall in no way affect
the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution.
Section 5: This resolution shall become effective upon its passage and adoption by the
City Commission.
