CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-2020 - O-' Cr
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA,
REAFFIRMING THE ACTIONS TAKEN BY STAFF
TO JOIN THE "WE ARE STILL IN" COALITION
UPON CITY COMMISSION DIRECTION;
REAFFIRMING THE CITY'S CLIMATE ACTION
COMMITMENTS AND AUTHORIZING
APPROPRIATE STAFF TO UPDATE AND REVISE
SUCH COMMITMENTS TO ENSURE ALIGNMENT
WITH THE CITY'S STRATEGIC AND BUDGETARY
PRIORITIES; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, The Paris Agreement was drafted and signed in 2016 by 195
member states in the United Nations to institute a global framework for climate
action; and
WHEREAS, In 2017, President Trump announced that the United States
would withdraw from the Paris Agreement;
WHEREAS, The "We Are Still In" Coalition arose in response to this
decision and affirms the commitment of many subnational organizations within the
U. S. to the goal of emission reduction in the fight against climate change; and
WHEREAS, The City of Tamarac has a demonstrated history of commitment to
being green and sustainable; and
WHEREAS, The City of Tamarac is a signatory to the 2005 U.S. Mayors
Climate Protection Agreement; and

WHEREAS, In 2014, the City of Tamarac adopted Resolution R-2014-82
executing an agreement with the Florida PACE Funding Agency enabling Tamarac
residential and commercial property owners to apply for a financing option to make
energy efficient, renewable energy and wind resistant improvements to properties
within the City via non-ad valorem assessments; and
WHEREAS, The City of Tamarac currently participates in the countywide
PACE program; and
WHEREAS, In 2015, the City of Tamarac adopted Resolution R-2015-71,
supporting efforts opposing hydraulic or acid fracturing, and included the
opposition to such practices in its State Legislative Agenda adopted via Resolution
R-2015-115; and
WHEREAS, In 2017, in response to the U.S. decision to withdraw from the
Paris Agreement, the City Commission, adopted Resolution R-2017-89, urging
national and state leadership to continue to support and fund programs, grants,
and initiatives that promote environmental protection, sustainability, infrastructure
improvements, and resiliency to extreme weather events; and
WHEREAS, The City of Tamarac Code of Ordinances includes regulations
that promote water conservation, sustainable landscaping, and development
standards that encourage bikeway and sidewalk connectivity and alternative
modes of transportation; and
WHEREAS, On December 9, 2019 The City Commission had the initial
workshop discussion about the "We Are Still In" Coalition and the City's current
and future sustainable practices; and

WHEREAS, On January 8, 2020, the City Commission passed a motion to
support the Paris Agreement and the "We Are Still In Coalition" at the regular City
Commission Meeting; and
WHEREAS, Based on this direction, City staff filled out the online
registration and selected the appropriate commitment categories to reflect the City
of Tamarac efforts based on our strategic goals and budgetary allocations; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, deems it to be in
the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to reaffirms
the actions taken by staff to join the "We Are Still In Coalition" upon City
Commission direction, reaffirms the City's climate action commitments and
authorizes appropriate staff to update and revise such commitments to ensure
alignment with the City's strategic and budgetary priorities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA THAT:
SECTION 1 : The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this
Resolution. All exhibits attached hereto are incorporated herein and made a
specific part of this Resolution.
SECTION 2: The City Commission of the City of Tamarac hereby reaffirms
the actions taken by staff to join the "We Are Still In Coalition" upon City
Commission direction.

SECTION 3: The City Commission further reaffirms the City's climate action
commitments and authorizes appropriate staff to update and revise such
commitments to ensure alignment with the City's strategic and budgetary priorities.
SECTION 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this
Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or
invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions
or applications of this Resolution.
SECTION 6: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon
adoption.
